John Herbet – Minister of Music and Worship Arts
Johnny was born at Fort Benning, Georgia while his father was serving in the U.S. ARMY. He grew up in West Monroe, Louisiana and attended Louisiana Tech University for two years pursuing a degree in pre-med. Unsure of God’s call on his life, he enlisted in the armed forces and served as a guitarist for the 283rd ARMY Band at Fort Benning. During his three-year commitment, he finally answered the call to ministry and enrolled at Oral Roberts University to study music. As a full-time student at ORU, he also served as a music minister in a local church and sang with the ORU Singers on the daily TV program with Richard and Oral Roberts. He graduated with a B.A. in Music and Theology minor.
The ministry has taken Johnny around the world on mission trips in Africa, Barbados, Trinidad, Canada, Mexico, and the United States. He has served in local churches in Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and now Florida. Johnny and his wife Carol joined the staff of FUMC in February of 2006. They have three grown children: Paige who lives with them and recently graduated from Southeastern University; Michelle who is married and lives in Byron, Georgia; and Jeremy who is working and going to college in Warner Robins, Georgia.
Johnny and Carol have been a wonderful addition to the FUMC family. Their enthusiasm and excellence of ministry have added a new dimension to worship and outreach for the church. They love to lead people into God’s presence. They believe in whole-hearted praise and intimate fellowship with Christ. Johnny feels that in today’s world, the Church must be culturally relevant and spiritually sensitive, utilizing all facets of music, drama, and media to communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are blessed to have them here at FUMC.
